Split Database
Mubeezi Micah

Dear Richard,

Thank you for the advice. I will keep the database as one file. What i have done now is:
- At the end of the month, the user clicks a button,
- A new accdr file is created
- Using the Transferdatabase method, i copy seven tables (out of >40) from the original Db and send them to the new database.
- I zip this new database and then attach it to an email. This has reduced the size from 2.2MB (if i zip the whole database which is about 10.7MB) to 160KB in the new database where i have only the important tables.
I can share this code with anyone interested.
I have one problem though. Some of my users are not configured to Outlook. For such users, i would like to instantly open the folder where the zipped file is. When they see it, they can attach it to their Gmail or Yahoo manually and then send to me. However, when i use Application.FollowHyperlink, the folder does not open because it is not in a trusted location. If i use Shell Explorer.exe...., i have to hard code the file path. Is there a better way i can open a specific folder?

Perhaps you can advice me

Thank you,

MICAH

Reply from Richard Rost:

With newer versions of Windows (Vista, 7) Microsoft made it REALLY hard for developers to just place files wherever they want... it prevent people from getting viruses. I used to have my Amicron Video Player software automatically download video files to the /ProgramFiles/599CD folder, but in Windows Vista this no longer works, so I have to resort to downloading them to the /User/Documents folder. Perhaps you could try that.
