Name Change Bug
Gary Orros

Evening everybody

I've been making some changes to my little database and in doing so I've renamed my forms to make it easier to make sense of them because of the amount now building up. Since then I now have a bug that I just can't figure it out. When you load the database it comes up with an error about form being misspelt or wrong in code. If I click on ok, It loads up fine and works correctly. This form has two sub-forms attached. One changes data in the other when you select from the first one.

I have been everywhere I can think of looking to find this old name but can't see it anywhere. If I delete the form the database won't load, I get that locked file coming up below and have to get task managed to close it before I can reopen it.

I do have backups but just see whats happening, I could just leave that form on the old name and it works fine. It would be great if anybody has an idea of what I done wrong.

Thanks Gary

Gary:  Start by being sure that the code being called to open your newly named forms contains the new name.  I suspect that the code is still trying to open the old name.

Is there a Default Value referring to the form?
Perhaps it is referenced in a Query?
Have you checked the Source Object property of your Subform objects?
Any event(s) associated with the Subform objects?

Thanks, Guys

I just went through it and surprisingly, I had already checked all of those.

I have just made a copy of that form and when it loads I have to change the code in de-bug to make work.
If I delete the original form the problems are still there and now I have to go to the task manager to get it to load up.

Delete both forms and now the problem moves to the next form (I have Residential, Commercial & Maintenance customers in forms) Each form has its own separate subform which feeds the other subform they share. I have been through all these bits and can't see where the old name is.
When building these I copied parts and made a different version of the forms and subforms, also needed different queries. Do you think that is why the problem can move from form to form when one is deleted or it is just a code problem?

Thanks

Go to File -> Options -> Current Database, and see if you have a form selected as the startup "Display Form."  If you rename that form, it won't be renamed in the option, unfortunately, causing an error.

Thanks, Everyone for your help

Kevin Yip was right I had a start-up form selected.
I can't believe that was all it was, I have wasted so much time trying to figure this out. I was expecting it to be so much more complicated than me being stupid. Really glad I asked now been driving me mad.

Hi Gary, sometimes the smaller (and/or more obvious) the issue, the harder it is often to find.  This is par for the course for any developer -- for any computer user, really.

Gary on the contrary, not time wasted at all unless you didn't learn from the experience.
We all start somewhere and next time something like this happens you will have this experience in your tool belt to draw on.
