Questions
Carolyn Jaret

I have sent several questions to the forum over the last week, and have not received any response. I am currently enrolled in the Check Register class and there are a number of things that are not working and I am completely frustrated.

The first problem I encountered was:

1. During Adding Payees and Categories, the following code does not work. If you type no, it does not overwrite the description, but it changes the payee!

Private Sub PayeeCombo_AfterUpdate()
    If Not IsNull(Description) Then
        If MsgBox("There is already a payee shown. Overwrite?", vbYesNoCancel) <> vbYes Then
            Exit Sub
        End If
    End If

2. When creating multiple accounts, and opening up any one individually, when you go to add a new record, it does not default to putting in the account that you just opened. It doesn't matter whether I put the accountID on the header of the form or keep it in the detail section.

I know I have a few other things to find out about, but I will keep this brief for now.  Please respond.

I have already addressed your first problem here.

Could you walk me through the second problem. Which form? Have you set the Default Value?

Hi Carolyn. First of all I want to make sure that you are aware that purchasing any of my courses or seminars is not a guarantee of personalized one-on-one support. You're paying for the seminar or the course not for technical support. The forums are here as a courtesy. The people who help you here are volunteers. I'm sorry that you're frustrated but if you're a beginner with Microsoft Access and you're attempting to tackle problems that involve VBA programming you might be in over your head. As far as I can tell you've only taken a couple of my other beginner lessons so I don't know what your skill level with Microsoft Access is.

With that being said the code that you're questioning does work. If the user answers no it aborts saving the record and leaves you in a "dirty" mode. Where by the user can then hit escape to cancel that edit. I believe I explained this in the video. If you want to completely cancel the edit and remove their changes you can add an undo command to the sub. You could also put this in the before update event and completely cancel the edit all together. The way I have it it cancels saving the changes but leaves the user in the same place they were. That's just a matter of preference. But the code does work. Trust me this seminar is several years old now and if there were any bugs in it lots of people would have caught them by now.

As far as question two goes I don't understand what you're talking about. Can you give me a little more detail and preferably a time index of name of the video where I cover that topic?

And once again support is not guaranteed but it's a courtesy. This is very clearly stated in my terms of sale. So be kind and appreciative of the volunteers who help you on here.
