Rick, I was hunting yesterday for the discussion we had a few months back similar to this topic where we had talked about how you actually used Access to logon to you bank website, etc., and you said you would do a video showing how, but then Kevin said he didn't think it was a good idea, and after a long discussion I've never heard anything else about it.  So... since this one is along the same line, do you think you can include the code to pull the Username and Password from Access and open and log onto different site?  Purty please?

Hi Sandra, in the old thread you are referring to (  Suggestions please ), you wanted to close all programs except Access.  That is something that not even this method from Richard would work for you.  Richard's video is for looking up program info, not closing the programs.  To you, a running program is something inside a window that you can see.  But there are tons of running programs with no open windows, and they are hidden from your view.  There is no setting anywhere that tells you if a program is "seen" or "unseen."  Therefore you wouldn't know what programs could be closed.  In the old thread, I mentioned a workaround involving PowerShell, but that, too, has shortcomings.

Websites nowadays can remember your user name and password -- the right way, the secure way.  So you really don't need to find other ways to "auto-login."  Websites check your IP address, browser, computer, put cookies in your computer, etc. to make sure you are "you" whom they remember.  If they don't remember you, they will ask you to logon again.  This works the same way whether you are on your phone, PC, or any device with a web browser.  And if someone tries to logon in a "manner" that is different from your usual pattern (such as from another country, unusual time zone, etc.), you will get a security alert via email, SMS, etc., to make you aware.  My point is, unless your self-created auto-login method could do all of the above, you would be compromising your security, badly, in exchange for not that much more convenience.

This thread is now CLOSED. If you wish to comment, start a NEW discussion in List Open Programs.
