How NOT To Behave
Giovanni Miranda

I've got this code:

Private Sub OpenComAirpImageLocBtn_Click()
    'This Code Opens a Specific Folder
    Dim filePath As String
    filePath = "I:\Gadwin Photos\FS2020 Background Pics"
    FollowHyperlink filePath, vbNormalFocus
End Sub

which opens to a specific folder location, but...how do I choose a file after navigating to the correct Folder?

By navigating I mean how do I choose the file to display the image I choose.  Or, how do I ask for a file location using a msgbox and choose a file or location to choose a file?  Right Now I have to past the image location into the Field before it is displayed as in an image on my form.  I want to be able to choose the location and the file through VBA and not just paste the location and filename in the Field itself.

Images shows how to pick a file with a a file picker.

Okay,
I think I've gotten the just of it in my code, but...it doesn't pick the file (paste it into the Field), here's my code:

Private Sub OpenComAircImageLocBtn_Click()
    Dim f As Object
    Dim strFile As String
    Dim strFolder As String
    Dim varItem As Variant

    Set f = Application.FileDialog(3)
    f.AllowMultiSelect = True
    If f.Show Then
        For Each varItem In f.SelectedItems
            strFile = Dir(varItem)
            strFolder = Left(varItem, Len(varItem) - Len(strFile))
            MsgBox "Folder: " & strFolder & vbCrLf & _
                "File: " & strFile
        Next
    End If
    Set f = Nothing
End Sub

How can I get it to show the file?  It seems as though it goes through the code like it should but it doesn't show image.  I thought that if I made ComAircImageLoc = StrFile it would do it.  It shows it but after you save it and go to another Record and do the same for that Record I go back to the previous Record and it's blank.

I put ComAircImageLoc = StrFile after Set f = Nothing...

I've watched the images free tech video, it says at the end the extended cut to show how to browse for a file and display it...I'm not a member so can't do that...
Giovanni Miranda OP  @Reply

It looks to me that it may just take a couple lines of code but I can't find where to do that and how to code it...
Giovanni Miranda OP  @Reply

I figured it out, besides the Private Sub and End Sub it took only 4 lines of code to accomplish what I wanted to do...it's a shame no one could help me with this.  I understand at times that you many not get an answer because of the complexity of your code and without seeing the big picture it's hard to know how to help.  But, come on guys...this was an easy help and no one wanted to give me a hand with it.

Or maybe, just maybe, we're busy!
Most of us help out part time and volunteer here.

So if you have to have something done right away
    1. invest in the courses.
    2. search the site for info.
    3. hire a consultant.
Giovanni Miranda OP  @Reply

You know what, let's not go down this road in investing in courses, okay?  I didn't think it was a secret to know how to do something.  All I'm going to say is that there are other sources out in the internet that don't charge you to know how to code something, they give it for free and show you exactly how to do it.  All I'm saying is that what I wanted to do was so easy I didn't have to spend money just to find out how to do it.  What Richard does is a very great service and I've learned so much!  Helping people is what I did for over 40 years, customer service was my big deal until I became handicapped, I never ever charged someone a monthly fee, annual fee to let them know 4 lines of code????

I believe if you were in my shoes you would also see my point.  Investing in courses may not be something people can do, I've searched the site for the information and didn't find it, hire a consultant for four lines of code?????  Really????  I found what I was looking for from another site that didn't charge me for it.  Why I need to pay to see the extended cut to be able to know how to code what I was wanting to do is really beyond me when it could have been told to me on how to do it and give a little explanation on what was done, that's all.  That to me would have been GOLD, I'm not at all against for making a little money on knowledge and letting others know what I know, but for 4 lines of code I believe that could have been given without me having to pay for it.

You are right - not going to argue.
All I'm saying is you came in chastising us for not helping when people have been bending over backward to help you.

This is how Richard makes his living.  If you don't like his structure you don't have to participate in the for sale courses.  There is tons of resources here for free.

All I'm saying is there is no obligation to provide you free help or to write your code for you.  If you find better resources out there by all means share them.  I'd be interested in knowing too.

Hi Giovanni, if you can't get something done, YOU PAY to get it done, either with money or with time, or both.  This is truth not just in computer, but in life.  If you lament about paying others, know that others have the answers, and YOU DON'T, simple as that.  The answer doesn't magically come to you.  If you can find free answers on the Internet, go ahead.  But I can guarantee you the Internet doesn't have all the answers.  More importantly, answers don't necessarily give you *understanding*.  When you get those "4 lines of code," do you thoroughly understand what they do?  If you plug in lines without fully understanding them, that is a recipe of disaster.  Only *education* gives you understanding, and that's why you pay for courses.  I didn't pay to learn Access, but I paid for computer database courses when I was a college sophomore.  If you have enough background and foundation, you may be able to learn Access on your own; but not if you don't.

What four lines fixed it for you?
Might be nice to share so others can be helped by your fortune that others shared to get you there.

No need to tell me about life fellas, my concerns are real and valid if you can't see that then I guess you're too young to understand what life is really like.  I know how Richard makes his living and I'm not chastising him for that, but you guys have answers no one has if they ASK FOR YOUR HELP. And not giving your all is a diservice to Richard himself.

As far as I am concerned there have been some of you who have bent backwards to help me and that has not gone unoticed and I have thanked you for that.  But chastising me for voicing my opinion REALLY?????

Like I said, there are some of you who have given code as examples to other users and to myself as well, If I was a moderator here on this site I would gladly give code advice to anyone who asks me and yes I would give them code examples of how I could help them get what they are looking for.  And, I don't think Richard would chastise you for that as I've seen code placed on this site freely to help customers out.  Having the foundation and background is inconseqential, it's the lack of help some of you give is what the issue is here.  Why would some give code and others hold it back?  Can you tell me that?  I believe it is their personality that allows for that, while others are too stringent in their giving and in effect lacks that luster of being able to help someone.  Yes, there are those moderators who I don't much care for because all they do is double talk and not answer my questions and there are those that are straight forward with me and tell me exactly what I need to do and how to get to it by code.  We can go back and forth all day on this fellas, but lets stop everything right here and agree to disagree...

Giovanni, I'm going to put on my polite customer service hat before responding. First, I'd like to remind you that technical support or assistance with your issues is not guaranteed; I make this explicitly clear throughout the website. I can't personally help everyone, and the other individuals who assist on this platform are volunteers. Complaining that no one replied to your messages within a few hours is unwarranted. In fact, Kevin R did guide you to the answer you sought. Yes, it's part of an Extended Cut video, and yes, you would need a Silver membership to access it. You can obtain the answer you're seeking for less than $6 or invest hours researching it yourself'your call. Is your time worth $6?

As others have mentioned, this is my livelihood. I provide a wealth of free information mainly because I enjoy it and, yes, because I offer additional, paid lessons. Complaining about a lack of help when you're not even a member is quite audacious.

Did you read the posting rules? Rule Number 0 clearly states that the helpers here are volunteers. Rule Number 8 says not to post large blocks of source code for troubleshooting. So, please respect the community and its guidelines.

Scott made a valid point: you have options. You can invest in my courses or find your answer elsewhere. If you don't see the value in my paid courses, that's perfectly fine. But if you can't find what you need for free and aren't willing to pay, I'm not sure what else to tell you.

I make a living doing this. I offer a lot for free, but there are limits. If you found your answer elsewhere, great! But if what you need is covered in my paid lessons, you'll have to decide whether or not to invest.

Regarding your complaint about having to pay for an "extended cut," let me reiterate: volunteers on this website help as and when they wish. If you're rude or dismissive, you're less likely to receive assistance. Whether it's four lines of code or 4,000, if I have a solution you need, and it's part of my paid content, you have a choice: pay for it, find it elsewhere, or go without.

This is not Reddit or StackOverflow. My website is designed primarily for the benefit of my members and students. The forums exist so they can ask questions specifically related to my videos and lessons. Posting unrelated content seeking help doesn't align with the intended purpose of these forums. While we typically don't mind the occasional off-topic question, behaving poorly because you didn't receive immediate assistance is unacceptable.

Going forward, feel free to enjoy my free videos and articles. However, if you have additional questions, please adhere to the posting rules and recognize that anyone answering your questions here does so voluntarily. Without a sincere apology, I'm personally unlikely to respond to your inquiries. Have a great day.

It's not about withholding information; it's about efficiency. I've already created a video that explains the concept you're asking about. Instead of rehashing the same information, I direct people to the appropriate video that answers their question. If I don't have an existing video that answers the question, I create one, whether it's a free or paid resource. The goal is to avoid answering the same questions repeatedly, which is something my moderators and I prefer to steer clear of. They are instructed to direct users to the relevant video, free or paid. If the video is a paid resource, you have the option to either find the answer elsewhere, purchase the video, or become a member. It's that straightforward.

You're not being criticized for sharing your opinion; you're being criticized for complaining that no one is willing to help you. Firstly, someone did help you by directing you to the appropriate video that answers your question. Secondly, you seem to overlook the fact that the people who assist here are volunteers. You don't have the right to complain about a lack of help. My website is designed to support my lessons and videos, not to offer generalized technical support on Microsoft Access to anyone who happens by. There are plenty of other websites for that purpose.

Agree to disagree on what, exactly? This is my website, and this is how things operate here. If you're not satisfied with that, you're welcome to go elsewhere. I won't tolerate someone coming here and complaining that nobody wants to help him. Remember, no one has any obligation to assist you. You'll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar; coming here and acting rudely won't get you far.

Hi Giovanni, in order to learn something, you have to put in the effort, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, in life or in computer.  You are lucky there are courses in computer, because in life, you are often left to your own devices.  If this is a financial issue, we can't help you.  If you don't want to pay for knowledge, get a proper education in the computer fields like I have -- I learned Access, Power Apps, SQL Server, etc. just by reading the manuals, all due to the foundation that was laid by decades of education.  You take a WHOLE lot for granted, buddy, in thinking that knowledge is SO easy to get by Googling on the Internet.  Not with your simplistic mindset you ain't.

Giovanni you can't just demand people to help you and then be condescending to them and leave a bad review. Richard does hours of free stuff on his site and still has to make a living. I've actually paid $30.00 for 4 lines of code before and it was worth it because all the free stuff on the internet did not help me solve the problem. I'm sure if you were polite to Richard and explain your situation if you are struggling that he would do something to help you. He has offered me discounts before just because I recognised his work. To leave a bad review over this situation is just nasty. I'm sure Richard won't but people lose business over bad reviews. If I were you I would apologise and ask nicely and see what happens.

I will go the extra mile for people who are kind and polite. Come here with an attitude, and you will get the ban hammer. Needless to say, Giovanni will no longer be replying here publicly. If he wants to check his attitude and contact me personally, my email is on the site.
