Moving records

Hi team,
I have 3 tables :
apartments,
occupants (child to apartments)and
authorised people (child to occupants)
In apartments form, when the occupant moves out, I need to make a delete button to move the current occupant and all authorised people to another table/s, but I need the relation to stay is as ( in case if this person decided to come back to another apartment).
Also, I need to make another button to move this occupant and his authorised people into another apartment IF the apartment is vacant.
Any tips of how to properly do that, and can you refer any associated lesson/s that can clarify that for me.
I was thinking of changing the status of the occupant (current /previous) instead of moving him out off the table which makes it easier to search for all occupants,  but not sure if this is the best option.

I'd prob have a junction table that has OccupantId and ApartmentId so you can say who is where

Another thought would be to make a history file. When an occupant moved out you would put all their info into a history table (maybe more than 1 table). You could then create a routine to move them back if you chose to. You also would have a complete history of all occupants. I would consider copying your existing tables into the History Folder and using them with slight modification.

If you put a button on the Apartments table and ran an append query on the Apartment table where you linked the Occupants table and the Authorized table, you could append these to your History table, but you must change the autonumbers in the history table to Number not autonumber. You could then make a delete query to delete the same info from your current database. If you decide to move this occupant back, you are probably going to use a new autonumber. That is something you have to decide.
Think it through first! You can do it. Moving them back is simple.  HTH  John

Many thanks for the responses. I guess my best option is append & delete for now.
