Splitting this way

I've only done the splitting of a db using the Database Tools. Have you seen that the Access tool does anything more than your technique in this video?

Can you please reframe your question? It is not clear what you are asking.

@Sami, I suggest you watch this video, and then search for Split (top right) and watch <U>Split Your Database</U> around 11:30. Tool or Wizard if you please.

Mr. Gonder,

There is no video called "Splitting this Way"! So, again, I ask you to read the Posting Rules.

And ask your question clearly.

The video your trying to link is Split Your Database. But still, it's not really on us to go watch videos and try to figure out what your trying to ask. I too am confused by the wording of your question.

If your asking if there's a difference to using the tool versus copy/pasting, its two roads to the same destination.

Yeah, sorry Thomas, but if I had to go re-watch one of my videos every time someone said "at 8:39 in the video you showed us THIS..." and then asked a question about it. I can't remember every video I recorded, and I don't have time to go rewatch it. So if you would, kindly give us a little more background on what you're trying to do, and maybe even a brief review of WHAT was covered in that video. Help us help you. :)

You can also split a database manually by using the Import database wizard on a blank database.  Or you can write VBA code to do it.  Btw, the wizard for splitting a database is an add-in, which is written in VBA like all Access add-ins.

Hi all, I think my OP was quite clear. Richard is showing two different ways to "split a database". I asked what the difference was. As for answering Sami, it appeared he didn't know what went on in this video, so he couldn't understand the simple question. As well, he had trouble reading the suggested video to watch. That may be in part because the tags don't seem to be working.

@ Kevin Y., is there a way to see the VBA for the add-in? If so, then I could answer the question.

@ Richard, in the video here, you created a duplicate of the database. Then in one db you deleted the tables, and in the other db you deleted everything else. How does this compare to your video "Split Your Database" where you use the Database Tools Wizard to split the database? Is one method any different/better or complete than the other?

@ Adam S. I don't see any copy/pasting in either video.

He copy/pastes the database to create a duplicate.

@ Adam S. You're right, I was thinking further down in the "splitting" process.

The tool is how I usually explain it to beginners. Manually deleting and linking is my preferred method. Both do the same thing. 6 of one, half dozen of another...

Hi Thomas, you cannot see VBA code inside an add-in, just like you can't see an .accde file's VBA code, which is protected.  But the code for splitting a database is not too complex.  It comprises mainly of using the DoCmd.TransferDatabase command and the properties of TableDef objects.  Richard must have courses on those.  The other posters may point you to them, since I don't have access to any of them.
