Lock code splitting database
Shelly Flood

I created a database with all the bells and whistles needed to function. When i split the database, none of the vba code to "lock" customers while editing (message and page color change) came over to the accde file utilized by end users. Is there a way to bring those features over, or should i split the database differently?

Without knowing exactly how you're locking the records, it's impossible for me to tell you.

Hi Shelly,

Can you please elaborate? I am not clear on what happened. Attached images if possible.

Thanks.

Access Record Locks Template im assuming your referring to this?

Thankk you both for responding, I am not referring to the record locks template, but rather i wrote that same code into my existing database and it works as expected. I get the words locked in the header and the notes field turns red instead of the original post it yelllow. I am now ready to deliver the database to my peers, so i split the data base to create a multiple FE access experience. Once i split the database, the words locked in the header and the notes field turning red no longer work. I cannot view code in the FE database so i am assuming these features do not transfer during the splitting process? I just want to confirm that this statement is true or if i did something wrong when splitting the database.

I think you've done something wrong then, I've split a few databases afterwards and it's worked fine.

Do you get any errors or it just doesn't work? Does other VBA in the database work? Is it in a trusted location? Have you deleted the local tables and re-linked it to the backend file?

Also note, I'm referring to it working with the code in the template. There is also the chance that your code is doing something different and that's why it's causing issues.

I typed out the code from the video's and placed on each form. no errors when splitting or when using the FE database. it just doesnt work. the traditional records lock works but not my code. yes trusted location, no deletion of tables / relinking.

Can you try to compact and repair, as well as compile the code and see if anything pops up?

When you say no deletion of tables/relinking, are you connected to the back end tables or local tables now?
