Setting a Query as a recordset
Thomas Corbett

2 years ago
Hi, I am trying to set a query named Audits as a recordset so I can move through each rs. I am currently setting it as

DetailsDim db As Database
Dim rsquery As Recordset
Set db = CurrentDb()
Set rsquery = db.OpenRecordset("Audits", dbOpenDynaset)
While Not rs.EOF

Perform a task

rs.MoveNext
Wend
Set rs = Nothing
Set db = Nothing
End Sub

But it keeps cutting out on the Set rsquery

Any help would be appreciated

Don't forget to close the database and the record set

Hi Thomas

Either use rs. or rsquery.   Do not mix them. That is your problem. I don't know what your table was but I made one to use with the query.
Check this vba out and modify to your needs

DetailsPrivate Sub testbtn_Click()
Dim db As Database
Dim rs As Recordset
Set db = CurrentDb()
Set rs = db.OpenRecordset("Audits", dbOpenDynaset)
While Not rs.EOF

rs.Edit
MsgBox "do something" & " " & rs!id
rs.Update

rs.MoveNext
Wend
Set rs = Nothing
Set db = Nothing
rs.close
db.close
End Sub

Closed recordset and database first
Thanks to Kevin who caught my sloppy paste

Private Sub testbtn_Click()
Dim db As Database
Dim rs As Recordset
Set db = CurrentDb()
Set rs = db.OpenRecordset("Audits", dbOpenDynaset)
    While Not rs.EOF

        rs.Edit
        MsgBox "do something" & " " & rs!id
        rs.Update
        rs.MoveNext
    Wend
rs.Close
db.Close
Set rs = Nothing
Set db = Nothing

End Sub
