Access 2010 subform
Greg Davis

Richard the comments you made are exactly what I said. The main form based on a two table query display the data on the form and the data on the subform comes from the link between the two forms. The table on the sub form contains no data. It is mean't to store the data from the sub form.

Reply from Richard Rost:

Greg, let's get on the same page with the terminology since I'm not understanding what you're trying to explain. You have two tables linked together with a join in a query. That query provides the data for your main form (master/parent form).

Now you say "the data on the subform comes from the link between the two forms." This doesn't make any sense. The subform has to get its data from a TABLE or QUERY. Is it the same query you're using for the main form? You can specify a link between a main form and its subform, but that doesn't define where it gets its data from - only which fields link the main form and sub form together to filter/limit the records. For example, if your main form had customers and the subform showed orders, you would link them together with a CustomerID field.

Your last sentence doesn't make any sense. Are you saying that the subform is bound to a table that doesn't have any records in it? If so, put some sample records in it and see what it displays. It's always easiest to work with tables that have sample data in them.

I strongly recommend you watch my free tutorial on forms and subforms to better understand the terminology, and how to set something like this up.
