Multiple Foreign Keys
David Cummins

My main table now has 22 foreign keys and counting. By the time I am done it may have 30-40 Foreign keys. Is this normal? If not, what am I missing?

FYI, I am using Dataverse for my tables and Dataverse does allow extended tables.

I can't say I've ran into a situation that would require that, what kind of foreign keys are you linking to? Most of my tables have just a few FK. Maybe you have a unique situation that requires it, but I wonder if your not storing redundant keys (like in a Customer->Invoice->Invoice Details, storing the customerID in the InvoiceDetails is redundant, it's already available through the InvoiceID.)

I am tracking services provided to foster youth including the status of multiple items such as grade level, GPA and other data. Basically, this is a human services program with lots of items to track including running fund balances (using Excel to track balances as Access isn't well suited to accomplish simple accounting functions). In short, there are numerous and disparate items to be tracked making for a complex database.

Not sure the exact setup but for example would you not have a YouthT with a YouthID with the various fields needed.
Then for your other Tables like Grades you would then have a YouthID as a FK in Grades?

Thanks Alex, I do have supporting tables such as GradesT. I tried placing YouthID in the other tables but I am having trouble entering data via combo boxes using FK's in forms. However, doing the reverse, inserting the PK of the supporting tables as FK's in the main YouthT works just fine.

Did you set a Default value?
What did you try?
Was it just setting the FK as empty?

Are you doing them as subforms like in Vehicle Maintenance
