Hyperlink to file on shared drive

Hi all. My goal was to create a button which would allow team members to open a file.  The button is on one of the menu subpages and I created a hidden text box (named Businessfile) on the submenu page to house the link to the file, which is stored on a shared drive in the same folder as the backend file. When I click on the button access says "runtime error '2424'. The expression you entered has a field, control or property name that Microsoft Access cannot find." When I click debug it highlights the line FollowHyperlink Businessfile, which is what I have VBA wise, following the format Richard used to call up a resume. Help.

What is the submenu page? Is this a Subform?

nono its just a regular form.  I have a main menu with buttons that lead to another menu (thats the submenu I am referring to). Its just a regular form with other buttons.

I don't see the correlation between the follow hyperlink VBA to open a file and the two links you posted though Kevin.....can you please give me some more context?

The first one shows the menu and the button I am trying to program called Business Rules. The 2nd shows the VBA behind the button.  The 3rd shows the text box which is located on the same form as the menu, but is hidden from regular view. It houses the pathway for the file and the last one is the property sheet for the box showing the pathway for the file (I had to black it out due to my company policies) as a source.

The Control Source should start with an equals sign and the path should be in quotes.

    ="C:\MyPath\MyFile.pdf"

I found the problem.  The file was a word doc and so I changed it to a pdf and then made sure to include .pdf in the pathway and now it opens!  Thank you for your help troubleshooting!
