Access Discontinued?
By Richard Rost   Richard Rost on LinkedIn Email Richard Rost   6 years ago

Microsoft Access LogoI've been asked several times recently if it's true that Microsoft is discontinuing Access. Absolutely NOT. Access has been around since 1992. There is a huge base of users who depend on Access. Microsoft would have people with torches and pitchforks at their offices if they got rid of Access. They did decide to get rid of Access Web Apps (rightfully so, as they were horrible) and Data Access Pages (ditto) but the desktop version of Access is alive and well. I subscribe to several Microsoft newsletters as well as a Microsoft MVP-only mailing list, and I have heard absolutely nothing about Access being canned.

In addition, I just recently attended the virtual Access DEVCON developer conference with industry insiders and Microsoft employees and they made it very clear to everyone that access is definitely alive and well. There are a lot of new features coming down the pipeline (they shared a few with us, which I'll report on soon). So don't worry at all about Access being w discontinued. It has been around for many years and it's going to be around a lot longer.
