Intro In lesson 304 you will learn how to use Microsoft Access to change control properties in code based on whether a form is displaying a quotation or an invoice. We will talk about the on-current event, update text box and button properties, and work with colors and captions. This lesson focuses on creating printable invoices and quotations, and covers working with reports, including section build events, VB code for reports, DoCmd.OpenReport, report page setup, margins, and other report properties. This is Access Developer Level 4 and follows the content from Access 303.
Transcript Welcome to Microsoft Access 304, Access Developer Level 4, brought to you by accesslearningzone.com. I am your instructor, Richard Rost.

In today's class, we are going to be working on a couple of different topics. Most of this will involve determining whether or not this is a quotation or an invoice, and changing properties in code. For example, we will change text box properties, button captions, colors, and other elements based on the values in our forms.

We are going to talk about something called the on-current event. We will be spending most of this class on creating a printable invoice or quotation.

We will be learning a lot of new things about reports, such as section build events and VB code specific to reports, including do command open report, report page setup, margins, and many different properties for reports. We are going to be doing a lot with reports today.

This class follows Access 303. You should have taken Access 303 before this one, or at the very least, 301, 302, and 303. We are using Access XP in this class as well as Windows XP.

I strongly recommend that you sit back, relax, and watch each lesson straight through. Then do it again, building the sample database as you go along.

The sample database files can be found at accesslearningzone.com/access/304. If you installed this from a CD-ROM or downloaded the full course from our website, a copy of the sample database files will be installed in the help folder under Program Files 599 CD, Access 304.

You will benefit the most from this lesson by doing the examples yourself. Do not just sit back and watch; be a participant. Practice these tasks yourself, and you will learn how to use Access better that way.

Thank you.

Summary Today's video from Access Learning Zone is Microsoft Access 304, Access Developer Level 4. I'm your instructor, Richard Rost.

In this course, we're going to focus on a few key areas. Much of our time will be spent figuring out whether our current record is a quote or an invoice, and then using VBA to adjust form properties dynamically. This includes changing text box properties, button captions, colors, and various other elements on our forms depending on the data.

We'll also explore the on-current event, which is crucial for reacting to changes as you move from record to record.

A major part of this class involves creating and printing invoices or quotations. To do this, we'll look closely at reports in Access. You'll learn about section build events, report-specific Visual Basic code, and important commands like opening reports with DoCmd, setting up report pages, adjusting margins, and modifying many report properties. Reports will be a central theme today.

This course builds directly on the material from Access 303, so you should already be familiar with what we covered there. At an absolute minimum, you need to have completed Access 301, 302, and 303 to get the most out of today's lessons. We're working with Access XP and Windows XP throughout this course.

To maximize your learning, I suggest you watch each lesson all the way through first, and then go back and repeat the steps yourself to build the sample database along with me.

The database files you'll need are available at accesslearningzone.com/access304. If you picked up this course on CD-ROM or downloaded the entire course from the website, you'll find a copy of the sample files in the help folder under Program Files, 599 CD, Access 304.

Remember, the best way to learn is by practicing the examples yourself rather than just watching the lessons. Get involved, follow along, and you'll become much more proficient with Access.

You can find a complete video tutorial with step-by-step instructions on everything discussed here on my website at the link below. Live long and prosper, my friends.
