Database Not Opening in 2007
John Valencic

I have a couple databases that I have used for years, but now neither wants to open. When I click on the file "Membership information", the "Record locking" database of "Membership information" appears and the Access program window just spins as if it was searching for the database, then access shuts down (hope I'm explaining this correctly). I have deleted the "Record locking" database and tried again, still nothing. I've tried just about everything including running the setup for Office and select "Repair" and checked with "Chat GPT" to no avail. BTW, both databases are now .mdb, instead of .accdb. Does anyone have an idea of what happened? I am truly at a loss...

Try to open the database in safe mode

Thanks for that Sami. Yes, I can open the database in Safe mode, but none of my controls are functional. I can open and close forms and view reports, but I must do so one at a time, not by control buttons.

Can you open the database on a different computer other than the one you're on?

Bill,
Thanks for your reply.
Haven't tried that yet. Currently I have backed up all my tables and Queries to a new 2007 database. Hopefully, after our membership drive, I will reinstall office. I am then going to consider rebuilding the database, as there is too much redundant code that needs to be cleaned up.

Just realized another snafu, when Building an expression in a query there's no problem, but when I attempt modify the expression using the Zoom feature, the database crashes

I opened the database on my Windows 7 computer that stays offline and never gets updated and now the database works fine. Guess I'll just keep it offline and transfer reports via USB

Have you tried importing objects from that db into a brand new empty db in the latest version of Access?

Thanks for that Alex. I may consider a newer version sometime in the near future,  but what I'm doing is strictly voluntary and out of my pocket financially.
