Assigning Numbers
Jessica C

After finding duplicate records in Access 2010,for example records with same usernames, how do you auto-number them to make them different. for example if you have: ajonis ajonis ajonis mwilliams mwilliams and so on that represent different people. how to make them ajonis1 ajonis2 ajonis3 mwilliams1 mwilliams2... automaticaly in your database.
Thanks

Reply from Richard Rost:

If you have an AutoNumber as the primary key, you don't have to worry about it. I would also set up the UserName field so it's INDEXED, NO DUPLICATES. This way you CAN'T have someone enter the same username twice.

HOWEVER, if you do find yourself with data NOW in your table like that, you would need to either clean the records up by hand, or write your own loop with a recordset and fix them. Depending on the number of records you have, option A may be easier.
