Vacant Lots
Nathan Ross

Hi Richard,

Thankyou for your reply,

The Database I have is for a Holiday Park.  The Facilities the park provide are: Camping, Holiday Units, Motel Rooms and Van Storage.

For the Van Storage Component of my Database. I have a main Table (VanStorageT). This table has a relationship with a Customer Table (CustomerT) that provides the customer Information for those who have a Item in Storage.
I have 25 Lots (Parking Spaces) for people who would like to store an item(ie MotorHome, Caravan, Boat ect) for a set period of time.

On my form, I am using Drop Down Boxes for Selecting the following, Lot Number, StorageItem and StorageSpot.

The VanStorageT uses a primary key of VanStorageID which is an autonumber.  This provides each record with a unique identifier.

All the Foreign Keys that the tables below use are: (StorageNumID, StorageSpotID, StorageItemID). These are Stored in the VanStorageT.

The Table Below is for each allocated Storage space known as Lots). They Numbered Lot 1 to Lot 25 as there are only 25 Storage lots available.

The Storage Number Table is set out as below:

StorageNumT
StorageNumID: Autonum
StorageNum: Lot 1, Lot 2...Lot 25 Etc...

The Table Below is for what type of Item the customer is storing:

StorageItemT
StorageItemID - AutoNum
StorageItem: Caravan, Boat, MotorHome Etc

The table below tells me if the Lot is Vaccant or if it has an Item Stored in it.

StorageSpotID - AutoNum
StorageSpot: Site Full, Site Vaccant, Temp Out

I would like to be able to use a drop down box for selecting a Lot Number. But I want the dropdown list to be two columns wide and for one column to tell me the Lot Number and the 2nd column to tell me if the site is Vaccant or Full. If the user tries to select a site that it full I need an error msg or if the site is full for it not to be displayed in this list.

Can this be done? or is my setup incorrect?

I hope this makes more sense...

Thanks Richard

Reply from Richard Rost:

Your setup looks fine. I would use just simple numbers for your lots, then you could just perform a DLOOKUP in a query to determine if that lot is vacant or not. If no other record currently has that lot selected, it's vacant.
