Input Mask Not Working
Carolyn Jaret

I am in the process of creating a check register database, and one of the fields that I have in it is a phone number.  When I use the wizard to create an input mask for that field, it works most of the time, but if I try to put my husband's phone number (and a few other numbers) in that field, it rejects my entry. I can't figure out why it is not working properly

please show us what the input mask is and a number like your husband phone number (best not to show the real number) Are you putting the input mask in a form or table?  John

This is the input mask that I put in the table -- !\(999") "000\-0000 -- which came from the wizard. a phone number that does not work is (820) 784-4335 (which is similar to, but not the same as, my husband's phone number -- different area code). I have another database that I created and I am having the same problem when trying to enter the same number. It seems that the same number with different area codes still comes up with the same issue in either database

The input mask is the same in the form as it is in the table

Does anyone have an idea of why this works with most phone numbers, but not others

I don't know why this isn't working for you. I tested it with the same Input Mask and the same phone number you supplied and it worked for me.

Hi Carolyn,

Can you show us a screen shot of your table in design view while you are on the phone # field? That might help us help you as the only way I've been able to get an error to pop up and not be able to enter a phone number is if I change the field type to number instead of short text. As a number, the largest phone # I can then enter is (214) 748-3647 which is the maximum number a large integer will hold. (2,147,483,647)
