Populate Field From Dropbox on Same Form

On my ClientF, I have DiscountRate and DiscNameCmb. DiscNameCmb has three data points (DiscountID, DiscountName, DiscountPercent). I have an AfterUpdate event on the combobox with me.refresh. The DiscountRate text box has a default value of =[DiscNameCmb].[Column](2).
It's supposed to pull the discount percent from DiscNameCmb and fill in DiscountAmount. It does nothing.

You will only get the Default Value for new records. For an existing record set the value in the After Update event of your Combo Box.

Sorry if I seem a bit dense but, sometimes, my brain doesn't quite grasp things like it used to, since the stroke. So, instead of me.refresh in the afterupdate of the combobox, how do I get it to push col 2 over to DiscountRate?
