Hi Richard and many thanks for your response.

The users are very 'Low Tech' and I use a batch program to firstly check if there is an updated version of the front end available on the server and if there is then automatically upload it before starting it - so I guess a button to then link the tables wouldn't be a practical solution for them in this case.

The front end also utilises Access Runtime 2010 so I'm not sure I could link using this anyway.

The back end file structure is always the same at each location, that is...

DriveLetter:\MyDB\Customer Documentation

The only thing that ever changes is the drive letter, so I can't see why UNC shouldn't work, but it doesn't.  The really oddball is that even though the documents are linked, Access somehow 'remembers' the image of what they were on my server here irrespective of what the customer puts in their folder.  Oh, and the customer has no connection to my server here whatsoever.

I can repeat this locally using a different drive letter on my own server.

Have tried this on various OS, including XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 and the results are the same.

Very puzzling.

Reply from Richard Rost:

How about mapping the same drive letter, like Z:, on all of the machines?
