Cascading Combobox Multiple Choices
Gary Gunn

I make Carvings in Wood, Mostly Coat of Arms and most of theses are custom, so one of the choices a customer gets is the type of wood they want it made from. So I have 89 diiferent woods to choose from. I purchase them in different forms, Rough Lumber & Finish Lumber to name 2. So In my Cascading Downdrops, I Pick 1) wood, 2) Rough Lumber, 3) Black Walnut. No Problem.  Next order - 1)Wood, 2)Finish Lumber, 3)has no listing. Now I can either make a double listing of the wood spieces under Finish Lumber or this doesn't work. Then what if I need Plywood, then thats a 3rd problem.

Hi, Gary.
In your case, you do not need cascading combo boxes.
You just need three independent combo boxes:
- Choose the medium you're building the coat of arms from.
- One to choose the species of wood
- One to choose the form the word "comes in."

You store those three different IDs in the customer order form.

Otherwise, you are building a huge number of permutations which will make your system unusable.

you are absolutly right! I've had tunnel vision looking at this thinking that was the way it had to be, but simpler is better. Thank you Sami, I feel like a fool!

Don't worry about it, Gary. We've all been there.

Been there done it.  Over thought it... and finally after after several days I walk away from it for a little bit.  Then it hits me of how tunnel vision I had been.
