Search Filter Dropdown

Awesome code, search works a treat but I just can't get the dropdown to work. I've checked my code and my spelling so It's got to be me! What have I missed, please help?

Can't tell what you missed without seeing your code. I am working on a device that will allow me to have what I call PC clairvoyance. Whenever a user says to me, "What have I done wrong," but doesn't show me what they've done, I'll still be able to see it through the interwebz, lol.

I'm guessing if the search part works that issue is with the dropdown command.  A missing period. Wrong name of the combobox maybe?

ObjectName used with the Dropdown Command

ObjectName.DropDown or in Richards Case.  FoodCombo.DropDown

Did you turn off Auto Expand?

Yes Kevin, I just checked Auto Expand set to No. Have just tried dropdown in another database, I could not get it to work there either!

When you say it doesn't work what do you mean? What happens when you drop the box down?

As Richard is typing in the combo box the list is dropping down to display matching items. If I type in the box I have to click the boxes down arrow to see the items. For example if I type Bre nothing shows but if I then click the arrow I get Bread white, Bread Wholemeal, Crackerbread. So its finding the stuff but the box does not automatically drop down to show it. Have just completed 31 where the FoodCombo.Dropdown code is moved. Everything still works the same as Richards, accept for the combo dropdown. Thanks for your time Kevin, I do appreciate it.

all the Auto Expand does determin if the combo box automatically filol the text box portion with a matching value from the list you type. When set to "Yes," typing characters searches the list and automatically completes the text box with the first matching entry, allowing for quicker selection of existing items without needing to open the full dropdown list.

For troubleshooting issues like this I'd rem out every line but that last one.  Or copy and paste into Notepad (unless you love retyping) and only have the FoodCombo.Dropdown.  That is the line that drop the list down.  Another thing is to Compact/Repair the database if you haven't in awhile.  I've had projects not do what they should and I do that and suddenly it works.

Make another button and just put the drop-down command and if that works. If not, it's something else with your system. What version of Access are you running? Try doing a compact repair like Jeffrey suggested. Debug compile. Run down the troubleshooter. It should work. That command goes all the way back, many, many versions in Access.

Hi everyone, The highlighted code works, but the other does not. I have been through the trouble shooter, I have rerun through 31 again to check all my code. Have run it on another Pc, run it from a hard drive to get it out of OneDrive.  My fitness Db still performs exactly the same as Richards, accept for the dropdown.....

What happens if you Copy the stuff in FoodCombo_Change() and put it into a Private Sub DropB_Change()?  Just tossing it out there. Because the code is correct. Just spitballing at this point.  Or set a
Private Sub FoodCombo_GotFocus()
   FoodCombo.DropDown
End Sub

Thanks Jeffrey. if I do the private Sub FoodCombo_GotFocus. As soon as I give FoodCombo the focus on the form it drops the whole list but as soon as I start to type in the box the list goes away and I'm back to the same problem. I'm thinking to delete this Combobox and re-instal a new one might be worth a try.

Wow! that solved it. Zapped the Combobox, followed Fitness 30 through again and the new Combo works as expected. My thanks to all who tried to help. Just anxious now to get my hands on Fitness 32.

Len.  I was going to suggest delete the box and try again.  The code obviously was fine.  The Combobox not so much.

Very strange.

Have been experimenting and I think I found out what I must have done to cause the problem. I think I format painted the ComboBox using the description field as the source. At least when I did this in my experiments it reproduced the problem! So sorry  if I caused some head scratching, but at least I learned something.
