Access can do the same types of calculations.  It's used for payroll in many small to midsize companies.

I think Rick covers a lot of this in his Expert 27 class.

It's just knowing how to translate Excel formulas to Access formulas. For example, a basic SUM function is easy; it's the same thing. But in Access, you can only put those in form footers, or you could put them in queries if you want to do it across the row. So that's just learning how the different formulas work. There isn't really exactly one video that teaches that, although that's not a bad idea. Maybe I'll add that to the list.
