Hi, I need to create a button function that will create a selected number of duplicates in the same table.

By duplicates I need to be able to copy a component together with all its associated attributes for example, and create a number of duplicate copies of the same data (except the Key ID) within the same table.

This is because I need to be able to create say 60 ++ (valves on an oil rig) of the exact same components as opposed to manually creating individual copies.

How would I construct the vba in this case please? Thanks

There are a couple of ways you could do this. The BEST way (but also the most difficult way) would be to use a RECORDSET. However an easier (yet less efficient way) would be to just use a loop with an SQL INSERT INTO statement. Something like:

NumRec = InputBox("How many records?")
For X = 1 to NumRec
   Docmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO MyTable (Field1, Field2) VALUES (1,2)"
Next

That's it. It's not as efficient as a recordset, but it should work. Just make sure you set your foreign key field to the parent's ID, and everything should be OK.
