Suggestion for Enhancements

Hi Richard,

Still with you on this and eagerly awaiting the episodes !

You mentioned having different users for the DB. How about being able to work out the daily suggested intake of calories, protein, fat etc for a user ?

( Calories - https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/weight-loss/in-depth/calorie-calculator/itt-20402304 )
(protein - https://www.calculator.net/protein-calculator.html )
(Fat - https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/weight-loss/in-depth/calorie-calculator/itt-20402304 )

There are different variables used in calculating the different Items being monitored

Age could be worked out and updated yearly.
Height/Gender could be input, changed if required.
Activity / Weight could be input on the log form daily/weekly basis as this would be changeable daily/weekly

It would good to able to keep the daily user information for historical use.

This information could then be used to compared with the actual intake for the day and track users progress (hopefully)

It's definitely one of my goals to add multi-user capability to the database, at least for the food log. The food and meal items can be global, but the food log itself should be per user, just like the activity log when we get to that.

I personally track my total weight, body fat, and muscle in pounds. My scale also calculates my BMR. I'll probably add a section where users can enter their own goals, like protein or calorie targets. If someone wants to track fat, fiber, sodium, etc. they can add that themselves. Same techniques.

I'm cautious about having the database calculate goal numbers automatically because those can vary a lot between people. As you said, it depends on age, height, gender, and activity. According to online charts, someone my age and height (52, 6'0") should weigh about 160 pounds. But I know from experience that at 180 I look like I have cancer. My ideal weight is around 220. Also most online calculators underestimate protein needs for people who lift weights. So I probably won't have the database calculate these numbers directly, but I'll definitely include links to good calculators where users can find them.

Excellent ideas as always.

Looks like you have that covered and they can add what they require.

Even the suggestion gets people thinking "how do i do that ? " and gives the opportunity to research and get hands on.

To a certain degree that's how i learnt more during lockdowns, about what could be done to enhance systems,  that's how I found your site.

Even as a GM I am still typing in the code and making mistakes and working out where i went wrong. Love your lessons that build from scratch to a full blown system, but not temped to un-retire and go back to work !

Come on, Paul you know you miss it. :)

I don't miss consulting. I would miss making videos though. I love this stuff.
