Referencing controls from navigation form

Richard.
I have a form that has a form header.  The form is called JournalReviewF.  It has a text box that I am using DSum in and it references another control.  The formula works fine: =DSum("Deposit","JournalT","RefNum = '" & [Forms]![JournalReviewF]![RefNumOnlySearchcbo] & "'")
I wanted to use a combobox to pick a DepositNumber and have the DSum tell me the total amount of that Deposit Number.

Here is the problem- I created an Access 2010 Navigation form, named NavigationForm.  When I insert JournalReviewF into NavigationForm, Dsum fails,  giving me a name? error.

Could you give me the proper syntax to make the Dsum function?  I have seen and used the form/subform syntax before, but I am failing miserably to get it to work in the Access 2010 navigation form.  I have tried searching your tips but have not come across this.

Thanks for your help.
Don

Reply from Richard Rost:

I hate, hate, HATE navigation forms. You're better off making your own form-based menus. When you insert a form into a nav form, you can't use the simple Forms!FormName!Field notation. You have to refer to the value on the form you want as a subform, like this:

Forms!NavigationFormNameF!SubFormNameF.Form!FieldName

In your case, it's probably:

Forms!NavigationFormNameF!JournalReviewF.Form!RefNumOnlySearchcbo
