Designing a Form
Carolyn Jaret

When I am designing a form, and I hold down the shift key to make changes to several controls, access frequently doesn't connect the controls.  Sometimes it does, and sometimes it does not, or sometimes it doesn't grab all the controls. What is wrong

Hi Carolyn, Are you looking at the form in design mode? What is the order of the controls you are attempting to select? Try using the ctrl key and see if you can sslect one at a time. John

i have no trouble selecting one at a time, wither with the control key or the shift key.  However, I used to be able to "lasso" a whole group of them together by holding the shift key down, and now that isn't working.

Hi Carolyn, you should be able to lasso a whole group without the shift key. If you click once in your form (outside of any controls) and drag the mouse to cover multiple controls, it should select them.

Although, depending on what "update" of Access you are using, there have been bugs that have cropped up that sometimes cause problems with selecting controls, copying controls, and/or pasting controls. Usually, at least on my machine, these crop up most often when my system has high memory usage, OR if I have a lot of stuff in the clipboard, OR if I haven't compacted the database in a while.

Another time when you may run into problems is if there are any timers actively running while your are trying to select stuff or to type, that can mess things up.

Carolyn

Select the first control, then Hold the Control [CTRL] Key, not [Shift] while selecting other controls.
