Hi Richard, I have created a form with a combo box. The combo box data comes from a table of botanical names. When I select the Botanical name, I would like it to lock, ie lock to that Primary key. Ie if I select Cocos nucifera, it locks to Primary key ID 1 and it cannot be changed. I then fill out the rest of the fields associated to Cocos nucifera etc. Locking the field will stop the field being changed accidentally to Camellia lutchuensis which the rest of the data will be incorrect. Hope this makes sense. Can you please explain how to lock a combo field.

Locking a user's entry like this would involve some programming. In the OnCurrent Event for the form, you could say:

If IsNull(MyFieldName) then
  MyFieldName.LOCKED = False
Else
  MyFieldName.LOCKED = True
End If

Basically, as each record is opened, Access will LOCK the field if it has a value, and UNLOCK it if it's NULL (empty).
