MS Access Corrupt DB Question
Oystein Frostad

I have a question how to fix a corrupt MS Access DB.

I was testing how to send e-mail with outlook, with the code example from Access Learning.

Even thou I have instlled the new version of Outlook, it was not working to send e-mail. I unistalled the Outlook, I then I try the VB kode again....then drastic mistake....

The MS Office automaticly try to install Outlook, while the MS Access DB was running. (Clasic failure)

The Access DB was corupted, could not open any tables or forms.
So I try to find a solution.
Stellar.com claim to repair MS Access, and yes, cost 99USD, but only the Forms and tables are now ok. All the VB-code is lost.

The Access DB is dead without all the vb codes. I have some old VB code I could copy in, but a big job to make it work.

Is anybody have silular experiance, and found a solution to fix the DB ?

Is there other repair programs that is better then Stellar.com

Best Regards
Oystein

Hi Oystein,

Sorry to hear about your database getting corrupted. Unfortunately, once the VBA project inside an Access file is damaged, it is usually not recoverable unless you have a recent backup. This is why I always stress keeping regular daily backups before making any major changes, especially before testing new code or installing software that integrates with Office. I have a full page on my site that covers backup strategies in detail.

I have never used Stellar myself, so I cannot comment on how good it is. However, there is a trusted database recovery service run by Microsoft Access MVP Wayne Phillips that might be worth checking out. He has been helping people with Access corruption issues for many years and has a solid reputation in the Access community.

If you have a backup, that is definitely your best option. Restore from that and re-import any new data if possible. If not, Wayne's service is probably your next best bet.

It sucks when the VBA becomes corrupted. I learned to Split the database.  Make a copy of the front end.  And make sure you make another copy if and when you change the front end. That way in theory you will only need to update/replace the front end.
