Extended Cut with Subforms
Monica Jones

I had this working in a database, then tried to get all fancy with the SubformControl and now I've broken it. It doesn't grab the TypeID but when I add that one line just like Richard did with the same issue Access yells at me when I open the SelectF. I'll add screenshots below. fyi, I call my helper tables menu

Why would you be setting the DefaultValue and not just the Controls Value?

'Cause Richard said so, lol. I want the MenuTypeID to automatically fill in for whichever field I've opened the MenuSelectF from. And to do so whether I'm adding 1 entry or 20.  I don't know what the difference is between DefautValue and Value would be in this situation.

There may be a conflict with your control and parameter names that is messing Access/VBA up.

You're setting the property of a form control to the value of a parameter by the same name. Even though you've named the form control explicitly, it could be detecting that the parameter MenuTypeID doesn't have a propery called DefaultValue.

Alex I tried changing it to Value instead of DefaultValue and it isn't yelling at me anymore, but it isn't grabbing the MenuTypeID either. Dunno if that sheds any light on the issue.

See if this works:
Public Function OpenMenuForm(ByVal MenuTypeID As Long)

ByRef v ByVal

Forms!MenuSelectF!MenuTypeID.DefaultValue = MenuTypeID
Forms!MenuSelectF!MenuTypeID = MenuTypeID
