Opening an Access database on different machines
Peter

This is weird and has me stumped.

I have a split Access database, (Access 2010), which works perfectly on the computer it was created on, (Windows 8).

If I delete the links to the tables and copy the front end to a second computer, (Windows 7), open it holding the shift key and then link it to a separate set of identical, (other than for content), tables it works fine as one would expect.  However, if I repeat the process the other way round, (Win 7 PC to Win 8 PC), then it is impossible to open it, (again holding down the shift key).  Very strange.

But it gets stranger....  If I then create a blank database on the Windows 8 PC I can the import all the Forms, Macros, Reports etc from the file I can't open.

I have similar problems going to and from an XP machine.

All PC's are running Access 2010.

I need to be able to do this as I have multiple developers and only want to ship the front end.  Also, this impacts shipping just the front end in a production environment.

Reply from Richard Rost:

That is very strange. Do you have the latest service packs installed? It could be a bug. I'd have to see it in action and play with it in order to tell you what's wrong. Download the EVAL copy of Access 2013 and see if that works with it. If so, that's the easiest fix.
