For those of you who are always complaining that Access doesn't give easily understandable error messages, don't worry. Even I see ones that I've never run across, and I've been using Access for over 30 years now. Here's one I just got today:
Run-time error '-2147417848 (800 10108)': Automation error The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.
That is basically Access saying, "Whatever I was talking to just hung up on me." It is a COM error, which is tech-speak for one program trying to talk to another program or object, and the other side bailed out mid-conversation.
This usually means one of a few things happened: the external app crashed or closed, a reference to an object stuck around after its parent disappeared, a form or subform got shut down while something was still running, or some long-running automation got interrupted and the connection dropped. In my case, I have no idea what was going on. Access just threw the message, waved goodbye, and crashed. Thanks, buddy.
It could also be a weird timing issue, a screen refresh, or even a DoEvents at the wrong moment. Gotta love it. Access and I have a real love/hate relationship sometimes.
I believe that the automation error you experienced was due to using the Hyperlink subaddress property for a command button. It was caused by a change made to shared Office code which affected Current Channel (CC) version 2510 and was fixed in Current Channel version 2511 build 19426.20186 (released 9 Dec). See my draft article: https://isladogs.co.uk/bug-summary-2512/
