Waiting for a Printer Connection
Debbie Heaney

I've been doing a lot of work with reports lately and every time i open the database, the first time i want to open a report there is a highly annoying popup.

"Waiting for printer connection"
Please wait for printer or cancel connection".

I'm left waiting 30 seconds or so before I can do anything.

If i click the cancel button then I get "There was a problem retrieving printer information for this object. The object may have been sent to a printer that is unavailable".

All reports are set to open in "Print Preview" so nothing is actually being sent to the printer at that point.

The printer is a network printer, and is very seldom actually on.

It doesn't matter if I'm on the desktop with wired connection to the network, or on the laptop using Wi-Fi.

Other applications like Word and Excel have a <=10 pause with no messages popping up, so I've been tolerating the delay. But >=30 seconds for Access is frustrating.

Anybody any ideas on how to speed this up? or better still stop it?

Hi Debbie

This is almost a problem with your printer setup on your Windows computer than anything Access is trying to do.
Go to your Windows setup then printers and see what the default printer is
Hopefully that will give you a clue

The only thing i could think of to do from there was et the default printer to "Print to PDF".

That seems to have worked.

I should maybe go and switch the printer to see if that helps? otherwise there is gremlins in in the printer configuration.

I will leave on .pdf for now.

Thanks Sami.
