I'm back with another question. Getting frustrated in that I have, multiple times, referenced the lessons on calculated query fields-have followed them step by step and I cannot get the columns to populate the way the videos show. What might I be doing wrong, or has something changed in Access? This is not all that difficult.

It is because of the Null values in your Debit and Credit fields.

If the blank fields (debit or credit) are null (have no value) then the calculation is null... 1 + null = null; null - 1 = null change your amount formula to read: Amount: Nz([Credit])-Nz([Debit]) and it should work as NZ replaces the null value with a zero in the formula Null Math

I just played with it some more and created the Check Register From from another video and the issue was that the system was not reading the entered lines. After I deleted them all and followed the video through it did calculate correctly. Think I am on a roll now. Thanks for the input! If I run up against another issue I can refer back to your advice.
