Query Help: Show Advisors with Their Sales Manager
Amir Ouranus

Hello,
In our organization, we have Advisors, and each Advisor is assigned to a Sales Manager. Following Richard’s guidance, I created a Sales Managers List Table and use a Combo Box to select a Sales Manager.
My challenge is with the query: I need a result that lists all Advisors along with their Sales Managers’ names. Right now, the query returns the Sales Manager ID in the Sales Manager column (e.g., ID = 4), which is fine for relationships, but I also need to see the Sales Manager’s name so I can identify who that ID refers to.
Could someone please advise how to adjust the query to display the Sales Manager’s name (not just the ID)?
Thank you!

Amir

Are your advisors and managers in the same table or different tables? This will determine how you relate them in the query to see the manager name.

Two good TechHelp videos: Self Join Relationships and Relationships.

And of course, there's always the Access Relationship Seminar.

These should all show how to join either multiple tables or a single table to itself to get them name to show with or instead of the ID.

Hi Donald,
The Manager List Table is a different table.

So in the QBE, You'll have your Advisor Table and your Manager Table at the top. The relationship for the query should be Advisor pointing to Manager so that it show all Advisors and only the Managers that match the SalesManagerID in the Advisor table.

At the bottom, you can put whatever fields you need to see from each table and they should show as expected.

I also have to say; the Relationship is there. I just don't want to see a Number (the Auto-Number ID that the Sales Manager List Table) uses. I like to translate that ID to the corresponding Sales Manager name.

If the relationship is showing in the query window, all you need to do is bring the manager name from the manager table to the list of fields in the Query By Example window at the bottom
