Favorite Access Keyboard Shortcuts

In Access, you don't have to type today's date or the current time. Press Ctrl - ; to instantly insert today's date, and Ctrl - Shift - ; to insert the current time. This works in tables, queries, and even subdatasheets. It's one of those tiny keyboard shortcuts that feels trivial until you start using it fifty times a day, then you wonder how you ever lived without it.

Another handy Datasheet shortcut: press Ctrl - ' (apostrophe) to copy the value from the same field in the record directly above the current one. It's perfect when you're entering a bunch of similar records and don't feel like retyping the same customer, date, or category over and over again. Tiny shortcut, big quality-of-life improvement.

What's one of your favorite keyboard shortcuts?

Ctrl - , (comma) and Ctrl - . (period) come in handy too when switching views (when I remember them) and Ctrl - + (plus) is handy especially if you're at the top of a long continuous form to go to a new record, especially if navigation buttons at the bottom are turned off.

Many of our databases are glorified spreadsheets, aka "not normalized".  I bought one of these to combine the shortcuts with field navigation.  I can echo & move right or paste & move down out of a single key stroke.

Matt Nice! I love my Stream Deck. I've got all kinds of customized buttons for things like turning my voice rec on/off, start/stop recording, etc. Beats having to remember all these keyboard shortcuts! LOL

I would love a stream deck.  To date, I have been too cheap to get one.  I keep eyeballing them though so...  :)

Matt You know, Alex tried for years to talk me into getting one and I finally did. Can't live without it now.

Sounds like this should be its own section on the ALZ desk mat!

Alex that is glorious, but I use a laptop. :(

Plus I've always liked separate devices - that way, if one breaks, you don't have to replace the whole giant thing. It's kinda like remember those TV VCR combos back in the day? Well, if the VCR stopped working, now you just got an expensive TV.

Yeah, you can plug a keyboard into the laptop, but then you got to push the laptop back further on your desk, and you can't use the little laptop screen.
