Command Button Wizard Error
Shane Knowles

Hi all,

Can someone help with the below issue please?

When i try to add a command button into a form i get an error that states in the command button wizard, invalid use of null.
Also, when the command wizard opens there is a choice of categories to choose from but the actions box is totally empty.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

thanks
shane

Go to the VBA editor (ALT + F11).
Go to Tools -- Reference
Do you have any MISSING references?

I see the Form name is Customer F try renaming it to CustomerF (no space) and then try to create the button

Hi Shane

Just wondering if you have tried updating access.
Seems weird there is no Actions available in the wizard.

Hopefully you have already fix this, if not you might also want to run through Richards Trouble Shooting?

you might have a name conflict is anything else named Customer F you could also try to decompile, Close Access, Press Win + R on your keyboard, msaccess.exe /decompile and hit Enter. Open your database. Access will decompile, Try the Wizard again.

Does the Command Button Wizard work properly on other forms in your database?

If unsure, either go to another form (after you make a backup) and try putting a new button with the wizard and see if it works; or create a new blank form in design view and try adding a button.

If it works in either of those scenarios, I would recommend making a new blank form and copying your controls from that form over and adjust any colors and code as needed and try again to add a button and see if it works.

If it doesn't work even in a blank form, then I would try opening another database and see if it works or create a new blank database, add a form and see if it works.

The "Invalid Use of Null" makes me think something is messed up in the system tables for that form so Access can't figure out what form id to link the button control to.
