Order Entry

Richard, we sell custom wheelchairs and I need to make a form that we can put the orders in. I need 1-30 lines. Would be great if I could hit enter to go to another line. These items would not be from inventory way too many custom items. What lessons would you advise? Love your classes they have been so helpful!

Reply from Richard Rost:

Whether you have 3 or 300 line items you should use a SUBFORM and store the data in a related table. If you're not using inventory, then you don't need to worry about a separate product table, so you could just freely enter items in. I cover building an order entry system in my EXPERT series, but you would definitely want to start with Expert 1 to make sure you understand the relational concepts (and of course the whole Beginner series before it for the basics). The only difference for you would be that where I use a combo box (drop down list) to allow users to pick a product from a list, you would just use a text box to type that value in.
