Dsum help
Bill

13 years ago
I was adding some error traps to a form that lists property owners by percentage. Obviously, the total should equal 100%. I added a close button so that I could catch an error before the form closed. I used Dsum on a query to add up the numbers and then tested to make sure that the total equaled 1 (100%). If not, a message box warned me to check the numbers.

Problem: The dsum is working fine. I added a line to my msgbox to show me the result and it confirms that the total is 100%, but I am still getting the error message. Here is the code.

Private Sub CloseButton_Click()
    Dim x As Double
    x = DSum("PercentOwner", "Owner2PropertyBridgeQ", "propertyid = " & PropertyID)
    If x <> 1 Then
        MsgBox ("WARNING: Something is wrong." & vbCr _
        & "The total is " & Format(x, "percent") & "." & vbCr _
        & "The Total MUST equal 100%")
        Exit Sub
    End If
    Forms("AddressSelectPropertyF").Refresh
    DoCmd.Close
End Sub

What am I doing wrong?

Reply from Richard Rost:

Is it a rounding problem? Remember, 0.99999 is still not 1. I'd need to see your data to be sure, but perhaps round off the values in your QUERY to within .1 and then see.
