Senior Access Dev Remote Wash DC
Richard Rost

Chevo is seeking a Senior MS Access Database Developer for a full-time, fully remote position supporting the USDA Budget Operations Branch Financial Management Tool. Although the contract supports teams in the Washington, DC and Kansas City areas, the position is completely remote. This is an advanced Access development role centered on maintaining and enhancing a mission-critical financial management application that combines a Microsoft Access front end with a MariaDB back end hosted in AWS.

What the role entails: Leading the development and maintenance of an Access application that serves as the front end for a MariaDB database. Responsibilities include managing forms, queries, reports, automation, ODBC connectivity, performance tuning, daily data refreshes, version control, user security, and database integrity. You'll also work extensively with SQL and help ensure the system remains accurate, reliable, and responsive for financial reporting.

About Chevo: Chevo is a women-owned management consulting and technology firm that provides services to U.S. federal agencies. The company specializes in business transformation, financial management, IT modernization, and data analytics. They have earned numerous workplace and government contracting awards, making them a well-established player in the federal consulting space.

Rick's take: This is one of the best Access jobs I've seen in a while. They're not looking for someone who merely knows Access. They're looking for someone to lead development on a production financial system where Access is still a critical part of the architecture. The combination of Access, SQL, ODBC, and MariaDB is particularly interesting because it shows exactly how Access continues to thrive as a front-end development platform while enterprise databases handle the heavy lifting. If you've completed my Access Expert and Developer courses and you're comfortable working with SQL back ends, this is exactly the kind of role those skills prepare you for. The fact that it's fully remote with a six-figure salary makes it even more attractive.
