Access 2021 Support Ends October 13

Microsoft has issued a new reminder that support for Office LTSC 2021 and its standalone applications ends on October 13, 2026. That includes Access LTSC 2021. After that date, Microsoft says these versions will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support.

Access 2021 will not suddenly stop running, but continuing to use it after end of support means newly discovered security or compatibility problems may remain unpatched. Microsoft recommends moving to Microsoft 365 Apps or, for organizations that need a perpetual on-premises release, Office LTSC 2024.

The current reminder is available in the Microsoft 365 Message Center archive. Microsoft also has an official lifecycle notice with upgrade guidance.

Thanks for the heads up! (I knew "sometime next month", but not the specific date.) Ever since uSoft gave us another year of Windows 10 ESU, I've been crossing fingers they'd also announce a year's extension to Office 2021. Ah well. It's good to finally know for sure that we'll need to pony up some $$ in the next couple of weeks after all.

Well, that doesn't mean it's going to stop working next month. You're good for a little while. It just means that if Microsoft finds any major problems, security holes, or other issues, you won't receive bug fixes or patches.

If it's working, especially on a closed in-house system with no outside access, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I still have customers running databases I built years ago on Access 2010, 2013, and 2016. They're internal systems, and they're perfectly fine.
