Set the form's Tab Cycle property to All Records. In Design View, open the form's Property Sheet, go to the Other tab, and set Cycle to All Records.

If Cycle is set to Current Record, Access keeps you on the same record. If it is set to All Records, tabbing out of the last control moves you to the next record - and, if you're on the last record of an editable form, it should take you to the new-record row.

Also make sure the form's Data Entry property isn't causing confusion and that the form allows additions.

Tab Cycle was set to All records and I changed it current record and saved it and then changed it back to see if it would accept All Records and it didn't change anything. Data Entry is set to NO what should it be?

No for Data Entry is fine. Setting that to yes means that you'll only be able to Add records, not browse and edit existing records. As Richard indicated, check the Allow Additions property and make sure that it is set to yes if you want to be able to add records.

If Allow Additions is Yes, then I would look at the Recordset Type property on the Data tab of the form and make sure that is says "Dynaset" and not "Snapshot" but typically I don't think you'd even be able to edit it if it were set to snapshot.

Then, I would check the Record Source property, is it a table or a query. If it's a query, can you open the query directly and verify you can add records there.

Those would be the starting steps I would take.

Okay Donald I had to set Data Entry back to No because it conflicted elsewhere. The record source is a query and Yes I can open the query and add records there. Lost at this point.

Back at where I was. Should I rebuild the form and try that?

hmm, without seeing the actual form... Other things to spot check would be tab order, i.e. to make sure that when you tab through it start where you expect and each tab lands where you expect to.

Do you have navigation buttons turned on on the form. You don't need them, but if you do, does it allow you to click the new record button there and go to a new record or is it greyed out?

If you can't go to a new record there, then something somewhere is changing where your form is navigating. Either code or a macro in the form or externally.

I have checked the tab order an it works correctly. Nav buttons are on and it lets me go to a new record.

Then I would look at any code in the fields or the form itself to ensure there isn't something somewhere telling the form when you lose focus on that last field to go to the first record.

After that, without actually seeing the control in the form and the code behind the form. The only options are try a compact and repair, restart access and possibly reboot your machine. and if still the same thing happening possibly a decompile as shown in the Compile video then recompile. If it still isn't working, then yeah, rebuilding the form might be the option you're stuck with.

I have tried quite a bit of that and nothing helped but ONE thing. REBUILT the form and it seems to be working fine now. Thank you for all your help and guidance.

Glad you got it working, Lee. Rebuilding the form was a good call after confirming that the query was editable, Allow Additions worked, the navigation buttons could create a new record, and the tab order was correct.

Sometimes a form just gets a little wonky, especially after lots of design changes. Recreating it can clear out whatever hidden property, event setting, or minor corruption was causing the strange behavior. Nice troubleshooting.
