Microsoft Access Error 2004 is being reported when previewing reports in Version 2609, Build 20430.20092. Microsoft's update history identifies this as a production Current Channel build released September 22. A September 24 Microsoft Community discussion describes reports failing to open for multiple customers, extending the problem beyond the earlier Preview-channel reports.

In his October 2 Access bug-summary update, Colin Riddington reports that the Access team has identified the issue and expects a fix during the week beginning October 5. That is reported expected timing, not confirmation that a fix has been released.

Some affected users report that opening a second, dummy report before previewing the intended report avoids the error. Riddington also lists keeping a dummy report open during PDF output as a workaround. Results vary between databases, so these reports do not establish that every Access 2609 installation is affected or that the workaround will help every case.
