Access Performance Tips

Back in 2007 (or perhaps earlier), a website called FMS published a list of performance tips for Access:

     https://www.fmsinc.com/microsoftaccess/Performance.html

I used to follow its advice quite closely.  But as time went on, some of its tips might have become outdated, leading Microsoft to warn users about the outdatedness of these tips:

     https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/office/developer/office-2007/dd942824(v=office.12)?redirectedfrom=MSDN

This list must have been pretty popular in its day, if Microsoft felt the need to address this.

I believe some of these tips are still valid, and the list may still serve as a handy guide for Access users.

If we could cross out some of the outdated ones, even better.

Many of these tips are quite basic, btw.

I'm familiar with FMS. In fact, I've met Luke Chung, their president, several times at Access conferences and MVP Summits. Really cool guy, and extremely knowledgeable. I've had the chance to chat with him on a few occasions and I've seen some of his presentations.

I remember going through that performance tips list years ago myself. I haven't gone through the whole thing recently, but I definitely remember picking up a few tricks from it that helped speed up some of my projects.

You're right, though. A lot has changed since Access 2007, and I'm sure some of those tips are still perfectly valid while others might be outdated.

That might actually make for an interesting video series. Go through the FMS performance tips one by one, explain what they do, and see which ones still apply to modern versions of Access and which ones don't.

Maybe I'll add that to my already ridiculously long to-do list. LOL.
