Access and Outlook

Richard Thanks Richard and sorry to complain but when I try to send a print preview file (PDF) via email using Outlook it doesn't send, no matter what email address I use. Do I have to somehow set up Access so it can talk to Outlook? It does bring up Outlook and I can send but nothing.

Hi Paul. No worries at all. Just a quick forum etiquette note: this was originally posted as a reply on a very long existing thread. When you have a new question, especially on a different topic, please start a new thread in the appropriate forum. I moved this one into the Access forum as its own conversation so it doesn't get buried and those long threads don't turn into hundreds of unrelated posts.

As far as Outlook goes, Access normally uses the default email program configured in Windows. If Outlook opens and lets you create the message, then Access is communicating with Outlook. You shouldn't need to configure anything special in Access.

The fact that the message appears in Outlook but doesn't actually send points more toward Outlook's account or Send/Receive configuration than Access itself. First, try creating a brand-new email directly in Outlook, attach any small PDF manually, and send it to yourself. If that doesn't arrive either, the problem is definitely on the Outlook side.

Also check Outlook's Outbox after you click Send. If the message is sitting there, Outlook may be in Work Offline mode, or it may be having trouble connecting to the mail server. If it vanishes from the Outbox but never arrives, check the Sent Items folder and your spam/junk folder at the receiving address.

Let us know what happens when you send a normal test email directly from Outlook, and whether the Access-generated email ends up in Outbox or Sent Items.
