The Proper Sequence of Building Using a Database
Paul Jack Higginbotham

I honestly don’t know how to ask what I need or in what order so here goes.

Do I create a table then type in all the airports in table data sheet view, or create the table and then create a form and type in all the airports or, create all the tables in the database first, and then populate each one with the data? I ask because I love Combo Boxes, but in order to use a combo box there has to be data in the tables to begin with right?

Then there’s the amount of tables. Too few or too many? How do I know what is the right amount of tables?

What I’m mostly interested in is Queries that use the One-to-Many relationships where I can ask a lot of different questions in the query but it seems to me that the database has to be 100% populated with the necessary data which leads back to the first questions above.

I usually start with building tables and adding data first.
The data at the start makes it easier to see if you are then doing forms and right, then the queries, then the reports.
Then work on the forms for working with the data, adding in, deleting, reading, and such like.

Build it one table at a time. If your project needs 10 tables then use 10 tables. If you only need 1 then use one.
Projects can grow arms and legs real fast.
You starting off thinking you only need 2-3 tables but as the project grows you find yourself adding another, then another.
Same with everything else. 1 query suddenly becomes 2, then 3 (I have that very situation happening right now in one of my own projects).
