Unsure what database design
Julie Burr

Hello, I would like some help in where best to start here or if anyone can point me to which training sessions I could purchase/view to aid me.  I work with a charity that offers several extra curricular sporting activities to kids i.e. swimming lessons, sports clubs etc.   I have started this new role & everything was kept on paper but allover the place & in the mind of the manager! I need to get this info backed up! So I need to create a customer db, the kids are the customers & I need to have their carers listed, address, contact info & what courses they are doing (this could be several at once!) I have started a customer table & realise from watching the video's that I will probably need to have many-to-many relationships up & running eventually. I am unsure whether to create a seperate table for each customer record for the parent or each child or whether to just put in the table with the kids' contact details.  I have many questions about the design of my database & what I want from it but I think I may need more time than this! Please help, I have so much data & I don't know where to start? I am not sure whether to list the employees in the same database too or a seperate database? sorry to waffle! Julie

Reply from Richard Rost:

Julie, I would recommend you watch all of my Beginner lessons and at least the first two of my Expert lessons. Those will explain relationships for you. I also have a special Access Relationship Seminar which goes over a couple of specific examples of tracking kids and parents.
