I am attempting to create a user form that will allow the input of a series of records. The records are results from a rating scale that has 66 items. The scale 66 scale ratings are related to a single person (a student). I need to be able to use each rating to calculate a percentage of students achieving a threshold score (in this case the score is >=4).


I would like a continuous form that pre populates a value for the rating scale item number (1, 2, 3, 4, ... for each succeeding record). I have tried setting up a counter using the dmax method described in the Tips and Tricks forum. The value does not seem to calculate before Access creates the (new) record so the resulting number is always 1 behind--despite the Event being a before update event.

My Questions Are:
1). Is there a way to program the Default Value property with a counter value?
2). Is there a better way to set up a data entry form for values associated with numbered rating items? (In Excel, this is easy---one prenumbered column so the user only has to enter values).
