To my fellow students:
I have developed an Access Database that tracks the various state elections such as Presidential, State, State Special and Municipal elections. I designed the tables using generic names like  Registered voters  and  A Pivot table for all elections . This database was designed to be used as a template for each of the other elections.
Because the database was so large I had to use an Excel pivot table to manage the data and then export it back into Access. I used the same name  A Pivot table for all elections , which overwrote the original table in Access.
I tried to rename the table and got the following message.  The database engine could not lock table  A Pivot Table for all elections  because it is already in use by another person or process. I also tried to delete the table and got the same message as well. There are no other Access or Excel programs running. What can I do to resolve this problem?

1. Rebooting
2. Compacting & repairing the database
3. Importing all of the DB objects into a blank new DB
