Protecting the back end files
Ed

I have a database I created that is split and has multiple users. The backend sits in a folder in a shared drive. There are probably under 10 people with access to this that use
this with different types of front end forms and reports. Found out this week that one of the users actually went directly into the tables to just print out info. This makes me extremely nervous. Is there a way to lock this folder without locking out all users. Any help would be deeply appreciated

                 Thanks

Nope. That's one of the problems with a shared Access solution. You have to give users read/write access to the folder that the back-end database file resides in. If they know how to find it, they can open it and play with it. You can ENCRYPT the data in the table if you have sensitive information, you can SECURE your front-end file to prevent tampering with your forms and reports, and you can split different tables into different folders and share those folders with different PERMISSIONS, but if you want a user to have access to a table, he has FULL access to the table. The only alternative is to set up a database server, like SQL SERVER, and I'll be having classes on this very soon.
